Dr. Becky Thomas is a Senior Lecturer at Swansea University Medical School, where she teaches on population health and diabetes and is a co-programme director for the MSc Diabetes Practice. Her research focuses on the epidemiology of diabetic retinopathy, screening intervals, health service redesign and the application of artificial intelligence in retinal image analysis
Dr. Thomas has participated in international outreach, including projects in Mauritius, Trinidad, Bermuda and Tanzania, developing screening programmes for diabetic eye disease demonstrating her commitment to global diabetes care. This work contributed to the Royal college of physician’s award for excellence in patient care in 2018.
In 2021, Dr. Thomas received multiple accolades at the Quality in Care (QiC) Diabetes Awards, including Outstanding Educator in Diabetes. She was also recognized for her role in Diabetes 101, a collaborative initiative aimed at supporting individuals with diabetes through social media during the COVID-19 pandemic
